Description

A faux silk drum sits close under the ceiling here, wrapped in midnight black with a green olive lining that warms the light as it spreads. The fitting and the trim are finished in antique brass, and a frosted acrylic diffuser closes the underside so the lamp is hidden from below. At 40cm across it reads as a generous circle without much drop, giving a soft wash straight down through the diffuser and a quieter glow through the sides of the shade.

We would fit this where a pendant would hang too low: a landing, a hallway, a bedroom under a lower ceiling, or a small dining room where a hanging flex gets in the way. It takes a lamp on an E27 socket up to 20W, and an LED GLS is what we reach for; with a dimmable lamp and a matching dimmer the level can be brought down for the evening. The dark shade stays calm against a white ceiling while the brass trim answers other metal in the room.

The shade is faux silk drawn over its frame, with acrylic used for the diffuser, so the finished fitting is light for its size. Dust the fabric with a soft brush or an upholstery attachment, and let a dry cloth deal with the diffuser once the power is off at the wall. It carries a one year warranty.
