Description

A shallow drum on a satin nickel frame, this is the sort of ceiling light that gives a room a proper fabric shade without dropping into head height. The shade is dual faux silk, antique gold on the outside with a ruby lining that pushes a warmer tone down into the room. Beneath it, a frosted acrylic diffuser softens the light and keeps the lamp out of direct view. At 40cm across it reads as generous rather than fussy, while the metalwork stays quietly in the background. It takes a single screw-fit E27 lamp, up to 20W.

We reach for this one where a pendant would hang too low: hallways, landings, bedrooms with ordinary ceilings, and dining spaces where you want fabric overhead but nothing swinging over the table. It suits bedrooms particularly well, since the ruby lining gives a flattering cast in the evening. With a suitable LED lamp and a compatible dimmer, the level can be taken right down for late nights. Fit it as the main light in a small to medium room, or run a pair along a wider landing.

The frame is metal in a brushed satin nickel finish and the diffuser is acrylic. Keep the shade fresh with a soft brush or a vacuum's upholstery head on its lowest setting, and wipe the acrylic with a barely damp cloth once the power is off and the fitting is cool. Sprays and solvents will mark faux silk, so keep them away from it. It carries a one year warranty.
