Description

The shade does most of the work here: a broad drum of dual faux silk, midnight black on the outside with a green olive lining, so the light takes on a soft warmth as it drops. At 50cm across it reads as a proper ceiling fitting rather than a modest hall light, and an antique brass plate and short stem hold it just clear of the ceiling. A frosted acrylic diffuser with an antique brass surround closes the base and takes the hard edge off the lamp above it.

We would fit it in a bedroom, dining room or sitting room where a hanging pendant would sit awkwardly low, and it does the same job on a landing or in a hallway of ordinary height: the fitting drops only 40cm below the ceiling. It takes an E27 lamp, and an LED GLS globe up to 20W suits it well, throwing broad light out through the fabric and a softer wash downwards through the diffuser. Dimming is possible if you pair a dimmable lamp with a compatible dimmer switch.

The metalwork carries an antique brass finish and the shade is faux silk throughout, dark outside and olive within. Dust the fabric with a soft brush or a lint-free cloth, working lightly and in one direction; the acrylic diffuser wipes clean with a barely damp cloth and a dry buff afterwards, power off first. It belongs in dry indoor rooms on an ordinary household supply. It carries a one year warranty.
