Description

The shade here is the draw: a drum of dual faux silk, nude beige on the outside with a paler moonlight lining, held on an antique brass frame that keeps it tight to the ceiling. At 40cm across it reads as a generous drum without the drop of a pendant, and the body beneath adds only a little depth below that. Light through faux silk comes out soft and warm, with a good share of it pushed down onto the floor.

We would fit this in a bedroom, on a landing or in a hallway where the ceiling sits low and a hanging shade would be in the way. It works in dining rooms of modest height too, and in sitting rooms where a warm neutral suits the walls better than white or dark metal. It takes an E27 lamp and we would choose an LED GLS globe of up to 20W; with a compatible lamp and a suitable dimmer on the circuit, the light will dim. It is an indoor fitting, meant for rooms that stay dry.

The frame is metal in an antique brass finish, with the fabric doing the work on colour. Keep the silk looking fresh with a soft brush or a vacuum upholstery head on low suction, and give the brass an occasional dry wipe, leaving polishes and sprays well alone. It carries a one year warranty.
