Description

The shade here is faux silk in ivory pearl, lined in white laminate so the light comes back down soft and even. It measures 40cm across, broad enough to read as a proper drum rather than a token ceiling fitting, and it sits close to the ceiling on an antique brass frame. Underneath, a frosted acrylic diffuser with an antique brass trim closes the base, taking the edge off the lamp and pushing a gentle wash of light downwards.

Lower ceilings are where it earns its place: hallways, landings, bedrooms and smaller sitting rooms, where a pendant on a drop would hang in the eyeline. It takes a single E27 lamp, and we would put a warm white LED GLS in ours for everyday use. Dimming is possible where both the lamp and the dimmer switch are suited to it, which is handy in a bedroom when you want to bring a reading light down to something quieter for the evening.

The frame is metal in an antique brass finish, warm and slightly aged rather than bright, and the shade is fabric over a laminate lining, so it wants a light hand: brush the fabric with a soft dry brush, and give the diffuser and the metalwork a wipe with a dry cloth once you have switched the power off at the wall. It carries a one year warranty. It is meant for dry rooms indoors on a standard household circuit, and needs an earth.
