Description

A wide faux silk drum in midnight black, lined in green olive, sits beneath a satin nickel plate, and a frosted acrylic diffuser closes off the base so the lamp is not seen head on. At 40cm across and 18cm deep, the shade has enough presence to read as the main light in a room while staying tight to the ceiling. The lining is the quiet trick here: light passing through it picks up a soft green warmth before it reaches the walls.

We reach for this one in hallways and on landings, in bedrooms where a ceiling sits low, and over a dining table in a room where a long drop would crowd the view. It takes an E27 lamp of up to 20W, and we would choose a warm white LED GLS for everyday use; with a compatible lamp and dimmer in place it will dim down for evenings. Keep it to indoor rooms that stay dry, away from steam and splashing, and it will look after itself.

The metalwork wears a satin nickel finish that stays calm against a white ceiling and does not show every mark, and the diffuser is acrylic rather than glass, so it is light to handle when you come to change a lamp. For upkeep, run a soft brush over the fabric now and then to lift dust from the weave, and wipe the diffuser with a barely damp cloth once the power is off and the lamp has gone cold. It carries a one year warranty. Lamps are not included.
