Description

The shade here is faux silk in black, lined with a white laminate that pushes light back down into the room, and it sits on a polished chrome fixture that holds it close to the ceiling. The drum measures 40cm across and 18cm deep, so it reads as a proper shade rather than a shallow cap, while the semi flush build keeps the fitting neat overhead. Light falls generously downwards and catches the chrome above.

We reach for this in hallways, landings and bedrooms where a pendant would hang too low, and it earns its place over a small dining table in a flat with ordinary ceiling heights. It takes one E27 lamp, and we would fit an LED GLS in a warm white for an even glow through the fabric. Dimming is possible with a compatible lamp and dimmer, both chosen separately, and we are glad to talk through the pairing.

The metalwork is polished to a bright mirror shine that answers chrome taps, handles and mirror frames elsewhere in the house, and the fabric drum softens it so the fitting does not glare. For upkeep, lift dust from the shade with a soft brush and give the chrome a quick buff with a dry cloth; sprays and creams have no business near the fabric. Keep it to dry rooms indoors, away from bathrooms, porches and anywhere steam gathers. It carries a one year warranty.
