Description

The shade is the part you notice: a wide beige drum in dual faux silk, with a paler moonlight lining that warms the light as it falls. It sits on a polished chrome frame that keeps the shade close to the ceiling, so you get the softness of fabric without anything hanging down into the room. One lamp does the work, an E27 GLS, and with the right lamp and a dimmer switch the light can be taken down for the evening. At 40cm across it reads generously without dominating a room of ordinary size.

It is one we would fit in a bedroom, a landing or a hallway where the ceiling sits low and a pendant would be in the way, yet a bare flush fitting would look mean. The fabric drum spreads light sideways as well as down, which suits a bedroom or a small sitting room better than a hard downward beam. We would put an LED GLS lamp in it, up to 20W, and keep it to dry rooms indoors; a bathroom or a porch asks for something sealed. Neutral beige gives it a place in most schemes.

The frame is metal in a polished chrome finish and the shade is dual faux silk, beige outside with a lighter lining. Dust the shade with a soft brush or the upholstery tool on a vacuum set low, and wipe the chrome with a dry cloth; damp cloths and sprays should stay away from the silk. It carries a one year warranty. Elsewhere in the Baymont range there are universal semi flush fittings in antique brass, satin nickel and satin black for shades of your own choosing, and linear pendants if a longer run of light is wanted.
