The shade here is a wide drum of faux silk in ivory pearl, lined in white laminate, held on a frame in antique brass that keeps the whole fitting tight to the ceiling. Five E27 lamps sit inside it, and a frosted acrylic diffuser closes the underside so the light arrives softened rather than as bright points. At 60cm across it reads as a large, calm circle rather than anything fussy, and the warmth of the brass sits well against the ivory fabric.

This is the shape we reach for where a pendant would hang too low: a landing, a bedroom with a modest ceiling height, a hallway people move through with bags and coats. There is enough output here for the main light in a sitting room or over a dining table, and with suitable lamps and a dimmer on the circuit it will pull down for the evening. It suits rooms already leaning warm, with brass or aged metal on the door furniture. We would keep it to dry rooms indoors, so not a shower room or a covered porch.

The frame is metal in an antique brass finish, the diffuser acrylic, and the shade fabric-covered, with the pale laminate lining bouncing light back down through it. For care, switch off at the wall, lift dust from the fabric with a soft brush or the upholstery head of a vacuum, then wipe the acrylic with a barely damp cloth and dry it. It measures 600mm across and 420mm overall in height, with the body itself 220mm deep, so it hugs the ceiling rather than dropping.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, with dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer fitted on the circuit. No dimmer is supplied with it.

How do I clean the faux silk shade?

Dry methods only. A soft brush or a vacuum upholstery head over the fabric, and a barely damp cloth on the acrylic diffuser. Avoid sprays and solvents on the silk-effect covering.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20, which is for dry indoor rooms, so choose something bathroom-rated for zoned areas.
