Description

A wide drum shade sits close to the ceiling here, its outer face in midnight black faux silk and its inner face in green olive, so the light picks up a warm cast on its way down. Below the shade, a frosted acrylic diffuser held in a polished chrome ring spreads the output as an even sheet rather than letting individual lamps glare through. The whole thing measures 60cm across with very little drop, which makes it read as a broad, calm disc of light overhead.

Five lamps behind one diffuser give a lot of usable brightness, so this suits the rooms that need to be lit properly rather than merely decorated: a dining room, a wide landing, a double bedroom, an open kitchen corner. We reach for it where a hanging pendant would sit too low over a table or in the path of a door. It takes five E27 lamps of up to 20W each, and it will dim if you pair dimmable lamps with a compatible dimmer, both of which are separate purchases.

The frame is finished in polished chrome, echoed in the trim around the diffuser, and the shade is a dual faux silk construction in two tones. For the fabric, a lint roller or a soft brush run gently around the drum lifts dust without pulling at the weave; the acrylic diffuser can be taken down and wiped with a barely damp cloth once the power is off and everything is cool. It is intended for dry rooms indoors, away from steam and splashes. It carries a one year warranty.
