A satin nickel frame carries a wide drum shade in dual faux silk, antique gold outside with a ruby lining that warms the light as it falls. Three E27 lamps sit within, and a frosted acrylic diffuser closes the underside so the view from below stays soft rather than glary. At 40cm across it reads as a generous circle on the ceiling, while the body stays close overhead and keeps the fitting clear of tall heads.

We reach for this one where a pendant would hang too low: landings, hallways under a standard ceiling, bedrooms, and the dining corner of a flat. Lamps up to 20W each are what it asks for, and an LED in the familiar GLS pear shape sits neatly behind the diffuser. With a compatible lamp and dimmer it will dim, which earns its keep over a table where you want the evening to soften. The gold and ruby give it enough colour to sit against a papered ceiling rose or a deeper wall shade.

Metalwork is finished in a quiet satin sheen that avoids the hard flash of polished chrome, the shade is faux silk, and the diffuser is acrylic. For the fabric, a soft brush or the upholstery head of a vacuum on its lowest setting lifts dust without dragging the weave; the diffuser wants a barely damp cloth and a dry one after, done with the power off and the lamps cold. Dry rooms indoors are its place, so leave bathrooms and porches to something sealed. It carries a one year warranty. Overall height is 375mm, with the metal body accounting for 170mm of that and the 400mm shade making up the rest.

Which lamps should I buy for it?

Three E27 lamps, rated no higher than 20W each. An LED GLS A60, the standard pear shape, is what we would choose here.

Can I put it on a dimmer?

Yes, provided you use dimmable lamps and a dimmer matched to them. No dimmer is supplied with the fitting.
