A wide drum shade held close to the ceiling on a slender antique brass frame, so the whole fitting reads as a soft disc of light rather than something hanging down into the room. The shade is faux silk and dual lined: raw cocoa on the outer face, Grecian bronze within, which warms the light as it spreads. A frosted acrylic diffuser rimmed in antique brass closes the underside and keeps the lamps out of direct view.

We reach for this where a pendant would hang too low: hallways and landings, a bedroom with a beam close overhead, a dining corner under a sloping ceiling. Lamps sit behind a single shade and give a broad, even wash instead of one hot pool, which makes it a sensible main light for a medium sized room. It takes three E27 lamps of up to 20W each, and warm white LED GLS is what we would fit. Dimming is possible with compatible lamps and a dimmer, neither of which comes with it.

Frame and diffuser rim share the same antique brass, a slightly darkened brass that suits older houses and warm paint colours better than a bright polish would. The 40cm shade is the widest part of the fitting, so it holds its own over a small table or in a square hallway. Keep the faux silk dry: a soft brush, or a vacuum on its lowest setting, lifts dust out of the weave, while the acrylic needs no more than a damp cloth wrung out well, once the power is off and everything has cooled. It carries a one year warranty. Which lamps should I use?

Three E27 lamps, rated no higher than 20W each. LED GLS A60 is the recommended type and gives the most even fill behind the shade.

Can I put it on a dimmer?

Yes, provided the lamps you choose are dimmable and are paired with a suitable dimmer. Neither the lamps nor the dimmer are supplied.

Is the shade one colour inside and out?

No. It is dual faced, raw cocoa on the outside and Grecian bronze on the inner face, so the light takes on a warmer cast as it passes through.

How do I clean the acrylic diffuser?

Switch off at the wall and let everything cool, then wipe the acrylic with a soft damp cloth. Avoid solvents and abrasive creams, which will haze the frosted surface.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No, it is rated for dry rooms only, so keep it to living spaces, bedrooms and circulation areas.
