Baymont 3 Light Semi Flush Black 40cm - Polished Chrome

A shallow drum shade in dual faux silk sits just below the ceiling here, midnight black on the outside with a green olive lining that warms the light as it spreads. The shade measures 40cm across, and a frosted acrylic diffuser closes the underside so the lamps read as a soft wash rather than separate hot spots. The plate and stems are finished in polished chrome, bright against the dark fabric.

It suits rooms where a pendant would hang too low: a bedroom under a lower ceiling, a landing, a hall, or a small dining space where headroom matters. Each of the three lampholders takes an E27 lamp of up to 20W, and we would reach for LED GLS globes in a warm white for the fullest, kindest spread. The fitting will dim with suitable lamps and a compatible dimmer, neither of which comes with it. The dark fabric holds its own in a room with plenty of pattern, while the olive inside keeps the light from feeling cold.

The shade is fabric over a shallow drum, the diffuser is acrylic, and the metalwork carries a polished chrome plating that stays bright with very little attention. For upkeep, take a soft brush or the low setting on a vacuum to the faux silk now and then, and give the chrome a barely damp cloth followed by a dry one; let the diffuser cool before you handle it. Keep the fitting to dry indoor rooms, since neither the fabric nor the plating is meant for steam or weather. It carries a one year warranty. How far does it hang below the ceiling?

The overall height is 375mm, of which the metal body accounts for 170mm, with the 40cm shade and diffuser making up the rest.

Which lamps should I buy for it?

It takes three E27 lamps, rated to a maximum of 20W each. We would fit LED GLS (A60) globes, which keep the diffuser evenly filled without crowding the shade.

Can I put it on a dimmer?

Yes, provided you use dimmable lamps with a compatible dimmer. Neither the lamps nor the dimmer come with the fitting.

What colour is the shade, inside and out?

No. It is rated IP20 and built for dry rooms, so a bathroom, shower room or covered porch calls for a fitting rated against moisture.

How do I clean the faux silk without marking it?

Dry methods only: a soft brush, or a vacuum on its lowest setting held slightly off the surface. Water can leave rings on the weave.
