The Basmorne is a square flush ceiling light: a neat black aluminium cube that sits tight against the ceiling and aims its light downwards. It measures 10cm long, 10cm wide and 12cm high, small enough to read as a crisp block of colour rather than a bulky shade. Inside, the bulb sits well back within a square opening whose walls slope inwards, so it is tucked into the body rather than hanging below it. It takes a GU10 bulb, which is not included, and its IP20 rating settles where it belongs: indoors, in dry rooms.

Because it sits close to the ceiling and sends light downwards, it suits places where a pendant would hang too low or get in the way: a hallway or landing with a low ceiling, above a kitchen worktop, over a dining table, or spaced along a corridor. Several fitted in a line or a grid give a tidy, architectural look, and the black finish stands out sharply against a white ceiling or sits quietly within a dark one. Choosing your own GU10 bulb means you decide the colour of the light and how bright it is, and you can change either later without replacing the fitting.

The body is aluminium, a light metal that does not rust, and the whole fitting weighs 0.54KG, so it puts very little load on the ceiling. The black runs inside the opening as well as across the outer faces, which gives a clean, even look. There is no switch on the light itself: it is switched at the wall and runs on 220-240V, 50/60Hz mains. As a wired-in mains light, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a download. Have a GU10 bulb ready on fitting day, as one is not supplied in the box.
