Description

The Barranco is a set of three round recessed downlights in white, each 9cm across, made to sit almost flush so the light seems to come from the ceiling itself. The body is white plastic, and every downlight takes a GU10 lamp. The wattage is given as 3 x 4.5W and each light gives 345lm, so three together spread an even wash across a room rather than one bright spot. They are rated IP20, which settles where they go: indoors, in dry rooms, well away from water.

In a kitchen, hallway or living room, a run of these gives clean general light from overhead without a pendant hanging into the space, which suits lower ceilings and rooms where you want the ceiling kept plain. The white trim blends into a white ceiling, so when the lights are off you mainly notice a neat ring. Buying a set of three gives you matching trims along a row, and they work well spaced down a corridor or over a dining table. There is no switch on the fitting itself; they are switched at the wall, from the switch you already use.

Each downlight is held in the ceiling by spring clips at the sides. Check the space first: each one needs a cut-out 6.8cm across and a recess depth of 8.5cm. These run on mains power at 220-240V, 50/60Hz, so they are installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a download.
