Banyan 3 Light E14 Floor Lamp 45cm White Black - Matt Black

A floor lamp with a wide faux silk shade, 45cm across, in black with a white laminate lining that pushes light back down into the room rather than letting it drift up the wall. The stem and base carry a matt black finish, and a foot switch on the flex saves reaching up under the shade every time. Inside, three E14 sockets share the work, so light spreads across the shade instead of coming from a single bright point.

Standing 1.6m tall, it puts the shade above seated eye level, so you get a soft wash over a chair without glare in your eyes. We would use it beside a sofa or an armchair for reading, in a snug, or in the corner of a bedroom where a pendant would feel too much. The foot switch is easy to find in the dark. It will dim, though that needs both dimmable lamps and a separate dimmer, neither of which comes with it. LED candle lamps are what we would fit.

The shade is faux silk with a black outer and the white laminate inside, and the matt black finish on the stem and base is flat rather than shiny, so it does not pick up highlights from other lamps. Double insulated construction means no earth connection is needed. Keep it clean by dusting the fabric with a soft brush, working round the shade rather than pressing into it, and giving the black finish an occasional dry wipe; skip sprays and damp cloths, which mark faux silk. Dry indoor rooms are its home, so keep it out of bathrooms and conservatories that get damp. It carries a one year warranty. Lamps are not included, and a matching pair either side of a sofa reads well if you have the floor space.

Three E14 lamps, each up to 20W. LED candle lamps in the C35 shape suit it best.

How tall is it and how much floor space does the shade need?

It stands 1600mm tall, with a shade 450mm in diameter and 150mm deep, so allow a little clearance from walls and curtains.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, but only with dimmable lamps and a separate wall dimmer. No dimmer is supplied with the lamp.

How is it switched on?

A foot switch on the flex, so you can tap it on and off without reaching under the shade.

How should the faux silk shade be cleaned?

Dust it with a soft brush or a lint roller, keeping the pressure light. Avoid water, sprays and solvents, which can leave rings on the fabric.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms only, so living rooms, bedrooms and studies rather than bathrooms or damp spaces.
