Description

A tall floor lamp with a slim antique brass column and a wide drum shade in grey faux silk. Three candle lamps sit together inside the shade, so the output reads soft and spread rather than as one hard point of light. The shade is 45cm across, and it stands high enough to throw light over a sofa arm or across a reading chair. A foot switch on the flex means you can turn it on and off without bending down.

We reach for a lamp like this where a corner needs filling but a ceiling fitting would only light the middle of the room. At 1.6m tall it works beside a sofa, behind an armchair or at the end of a bed, and the fabric shade keeps the light warm in a sitting room or a snug. It will work on a dimmer if you pair dimmable lamps with a compatible dimmer, so the level can be dropped back for the evening. It belongs in dry rooms indoors, running from an ordinary household socket.

The column and base carry an antique brass finish, warmed and slightly darkened rather than bright, which sits well with grey upholstery and older timber. The shade is faux silk, with a fine sheen that picks up the metal below it.
