Description

Three E14 lamps share one broad drum shade here, so the light falls as a wide, even wash rather than a single narrow beam. The shade is faux silk in black, 45cm across, held on a slim satin nickel column that rises to 1.6m with a weighted base to keep it steady. A foot switch on the flex does the switching, which means you can turn it on and off from the chair without leaning across to a wall.

It works hardest in a living room, standing just behind or beside a sofa where the shade sits at head height and lifts the whole corner. In a bedroom it makes a good alternative to a bedside lamp when the table is already full, and in a study or reading nook the three lamps give enough light to read by without a downward glare. We would fit warm white LED candle lamps in it and leave them at that. It can be dimmed if you pair dimmable lamps with a compatible dimmer, though neither the lamps nor the dimmer come with it.

The metalwork is finished in satin nickel, a soft brushed silver that stays quiet against dark walls and does not throw hard reflections the way polished chrome does. The faux silk shade has a light sheen and a woven look; keep it fresh with a gentle going-over using a clothes brush or the soft brush head of a vacuum, working from the top seam down, and lift finger marks from the column with a barely damp cloth once the lamp is switched off and cool. It carries a one year warranty.
