Description

Three candle lamps sit together under one wide drum of black faux silk, carried on a slender polished nickel stem that stands around 1.6m tall. The shade is 45cm across, broad enough to throw light sideways as well as downward, so the room fills with a soft, even wash rather than one hard pool on the floor. A foot switch on the flex puts control where your foot already is, with no reaching behind furniture. The small E14 candle sockets take LED candle lamps happily, and it draws little power for the amount of light it gives back.

We reach for a floor lamp of this sort in a corner that needs light but has no spare surface for a table lamp: beside a sofa, at the end of a reading chair, or in a bay window where the daylight runs out early. The trio of lamps gives you a generous, sociable glow rather than a narrow task beam, which suits sitting rooms and open-plan spaces better than a desk. Paired with suitable dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer, the level comes down nicely for an evening.

The frame is metal throughout, finished in polished nickel that keeps its shine against the matt black of the shade, and it is double insulated in use. Faux silk collects dust rather than dirt, so give it an occasional going over with a soft brush or the upholstery head of a vacuum on its lowest setting, and bring the nickel back with a barely damp cloth followed by a dry one. Keep both away from sprays and polishes. It carries a one year warranty. The bright metal sits well with mirrored or glass side tables, and the black shade ties it to darker joinery.
