Banyan 3 Light E14 Floor Lamp 1.6m High Grey - Satin Nickel

A tall, slender floor lamp built around a single wide, shallow shade of grey organza, carried on satin nickel metalwork. Three candle lamps sit inside that shade, so the light spreads across a room as much as it drops onto a book, and the fine weave takes the hardness off it. At 45cm across, the shade reads as broad but airy, and the stem beneath it stays narrow. A foot switch on the flex puts control at your toes rather than up by the fabric.

We would put it in the corner of a sitting room, angled behind an armchair or at the end of a sofa where a table lamp would sit too low to read by. It suits bedrooms too, beside a chair at the window, and studies where you want warm light away from the desk. The organza and satin nickel sit easily with grey and greige schemes, pale timber and brushed metal, and they do not fight patterned upholstery. Keep it to dry rooms indoors: a snug, a landing or a study rather than a bathroom or a covered porch.

The metal carries a satin nickel finish, a soft sheen that shows fingermarks far less than polished chrome, and the organza is held taut so the light passes through evenly. To clean, lift dust off the fabric with a soft brush or an upholstery tool on low suction, then run a dry cloth down the stem and base; organza dislikes water and sprays, so keep both away from it. What lamps does it take?

Three E14 candle lamps, each up to 20W. LED candles in the C35 shape are the ones we would reach for, and they are bought separately.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, with dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer. Neither the lamps nor a dimmer come with it, so specify both together.

How is it switched on?

There is a foot switch on the flex, so you can work it from a chair without reaching up to the shade.

How tall is it, and how much floor does it need?

It stands 1600mm high with a 450mm diameter shade, so allow a little more than that width in a corner or beside a sofa arm.

How do I look after the organza shade?

Dust it with a soft brush or a vacuum upholstery tool on the lowest suction. Avoid water, sprays and solvents, and let lamps cool before you touch the shade.

Is it heavy to move around?

It weighs 5.5kg, enough to feel planted but easy for one person to shift when you rearrange a room.
