Description

A slim satin nickel stem carries a wide shade of black organza, which softens the light as it passes through. Three candle lamps on E14 sockets sit inside, so the glow spreads across the fabric rather than being thrown from a single point. A foot switch on the base handles the on and off, and at 45cm across the shade is broad enough to read as a proper floor lamp rather than a slim uplighter. The shade is deep as well as wide, giving the light somewhere to gather before it reaches the room.

We would put it in a living room corner beside an armchair, where you want a pool of light to read by and a little height in the scheme. It also works well at the end of a sofa or in a wide hallway, and it is one we suggest where a table lamp has no surface to stand on. The lamp is double insulated, and it will dim if you fit dimmable candle lamps and add a compatible dimmer, though it is perfectly happy left as a switched lamp.

The stem and base wear a satin nickel finish set against black, a pairing that sits quietly with both dark wood and painted furniture. Dust settles on organza, so lift it away with a soft brush or a vacuum on low suction rather than a damp cloth, and give the nickel a dry wipe now and then. Keep it to dry rooms; organza and damp air are poor company, so a bathroom or a porch is not for it. Fit warm white lamps and the fabric takes on a soft amber cast in the evening.
