Description

A slim standing lamp with a broad, shallow organza shade in black, held on a champagne gold frame. Three candle lamps sit inside the shade, so light spreads across the fabric and arrives soft and diffused. The shade measures 45cm across, which gives the lamp a wide, low profile at the top, and a foot switch on the flex means you turn it on without reaching up into the shade.

At roughly 1.6m it sits at a comfortable height beside a sofa arm, an armchair or the end of a bed, casting light down onto a book and a gentler glow out through the organza. We would put it in a sitting room corner where a table lamp would crowd the side table, or in a bedroom where the ceiling light feels too bright for late evening. It takes E14 candle lamps, and LED candles are what we would fit. Dimming is possible if you use dimmable lamps with a compatible dimmer, though neither comes with the lamp.

The frame and base are finished in champagne gold, with the black shade giving the contrast that makes the metalwork read clearly across a room. It is double insulated, and suited to dry rooms indoors rather than porches, conservatory corners or anywhere it might catch damp. For cleaning, turn the lamp off at the foot switch and go over the metal with a dry cloth; the organza prefers a soft brush or a gentle vacuum on the outside, worked along the weave rather than against it. It carries a one year warranty. Lamps are bought separately, and we would choose warm white candles to keep the gold looking soft rather than brassy.
