Description

A B22 bayonet LED candle bulb that draws 4.9W and gives back 470 lumens, in a warm white 2700K. The pack rates it as the replacement for a 40W filament candle, so it is one of the brighter candle bulbs of its size rather than a dim decorative one. B22, also written BC, is the bayonet cap: two small pins on the side of a smooth metal base that push in and twist a quarter turn. If the old bulb screwed in, it is an E14 or E27 and this is not the one you want. These come from e-luminate, and the box holds two bulbs.

The candle shape is made for fittings that show the lamp off: multi-arm chandeliers, wall lights, small pendant shades, mirror lights and the little bedside fittings that take a clip-on shade. At 97mm tall and 35mm across the widest point, as printed on the pack, it slips inside a narrow shade without touching the fabric. 470 lumens per bulb adds up quickly, so a five-arm fitting fed with these puts out a genuinely usable amount of light for a dining room or a landing. 2700K is the warm, slightly yellow tone people recognise from old incandescent bulbs, and it flatters wood, brick and warm paint colours; if you are matching bulbs in the same room, look for 2700K on the others too, because a 4000K lamp beside one of these will read as cold and slightly blue.

The pack carries a crossed-out dimmer icon: these are not dimmable, so they belong on a normal on/off switch. Fitted to a dimmer they may buzz, flicker or fail early. The energy class is F, and the pack prints a life of up to 15 years. One unit is a box of two bulbs, with a minimum order of eight boxes, which is sixteen bulbs in total.

Look at the base of the old bulb. B22, or BC, has a smooth metal barrel with two small pins on the side that push in and twist to lock. A threaded base that screws in is an E27 or E14 and will not take this lamp.

The pack puts it level with a 40W filament candle, which is a comfortable brightness for one bulb in a wall light and adds up well across a three or five arm fitting.

Can I put these on a dimmer switch?
