Description

These are two small round plates in cream stoneware, sold together as a set of 2, each 10.5cm across and 1.5cm tall. A fine crackle runs through the cream surface, and each plate carries a different leaf: one a branched sprig of deeply cut, lobed leaves on a slender stem, the other a single broad leaf with a toothed edge and its veins finely traced. The rims are softly uneven rather than machine-perfect, which keeps the pair looking relaxed rather than formal.

At 10.5cm across they are smaller than a side plate, so think of them as little plates for the edges of the table rather than for a main meal: a biscuit beside a cup of tea, a pat of butter, a few olives, chutney next to the cheese, a dip or a small pastry. They suit a breakfast tray, an afternoon tea or a picnic table, and the low raised edge holds crumbs and small pieces neatly. Away from the kitchen, one makes a tidy dish for rings and earrings on a dressing table, or for keys and coins on a hall shelf.

Both plates are made of 100% stoneware. Stoneware is a dense, hard-fired clay and a sturdy choice for everyday tableware. They go in the dishwasher, which makes them easy to use daily, but they are not for the microwave or the oven, so heat anything warm in another dish first.
