Aubrey 3 Light E14 Pendant Light 36cm - Polished Chrome

Three clear glass shades hang from a polished chrome frame, each one taking a small candle lamp on an E14 socket. At 36cm across, it reads as a medium fitting: wide enough to hold the middle of a room, slim enough that the glass does most of the work and the metal simply carries it. Clear glass means you see the lamps themselves, so a flame tip or a plain candle shape both look right.

We would hang this over a dining table, a kitchen island or a hallway with height to spare, where the light wants spreading along the surface rather than pooling in the centre. It suits rooms that already have polished metal in them, taps, handles, mirror frames, and it works just as well above a console in a wide entrance hall. Dimming is possible if you fit dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer; neither comes with the fitting. This is an indoor light for dry, heated rooms, and not one for a bathroom or a covered porch.

The glass is clear throughout and the metalwork is polished to a bright chrome, which shows fingermarks more readily than a brushed finish; a dry microfibre cloth brings the shine back, and the glass can be washed in warm soapy water once everything is cold. No polish or metal cream is needed on the frame. It carries a one year warranty. The same shape is offered in antique brass if chrome sits too cool against your room, and the range also takes in a smaller pendant and a wider four light version for a longer table. Lamps are not included.

What lamps does it take?

Three E14 candle lamps, up to 20W each. LED candles in the C35 shape, plain or flame tip, are what we would choose, since the clear glass leaves the lamp on show.

How far down will it hang?

The drop is adjustable from 800mm to 1720mm, with a body height of 650mm, so it can sit low over a table or high in a stairwell.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you use dimmable lamps and pair them with a compatible dimmer. Neither the lamps nor the dimmer are supplied.

How wide is it, and how heavy?

It measures 360mm in diameter and weighs 3.2kg.

How do I clean the glass?

Switch off at the wall and let the lamps go cold, then wipe the shades with a soft damp cloth or wash them in warm soapy water and dry fully before refitting. Avoid abrasive pads on the chrome.
