Description

Atom is a chandelier in black and opal. Six opal glass spheres carried on short black stubs that branch from a tall vertical black rod, set at different heights and angles up its length so the cluster climbs rather than spreads. The rod hangs from a plain black flex and is finished at the bottom with a small black ball. Each sphere is warm opal and evenly diffusing, and they sit close enough to overlap in outline without touching. Nothing is symmetrical and the arrangement reads differently from every side.

It suits a dining table or a hall with height above head level, where the arms are read as a shape rather than crowded against a ceiling. Hang it so the lowest lamp clears head height, about 2.1m from the floor where people walk beneath it, and lower over a table where nobody passes under it.

The holder is G9 and takes up to 28W each. It wires into a fixed outlet at a terminal block, which is work for a competent electrician. It is class II, double insulated, so it needs no earth, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

Which bulb does it take?

A G9 lamp up to 28W. Bulbs are supplied separately so you can choose the brightness and colour you want.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, on a compatible dimmer, provided the lamp you fit is a dimmable one. The fitting has no dimmer of its own.

How high should it hang above a dining table?

About 80cm from the table top to the bottom of the lowest lamp. Go higher over an island people walk past, and lower over a table nobody passes beneath.

Does it need an electrician?

Yes. It wires into a fixed outlet at a terminal block.

Does it need an earth?

No. It is class II, double insulated, so it is wired live and neutral only.

Can it go in a bathroom?

No. It is IP20, which covers dry interior rooms only. A bathroom needs IP44 or better.
