Description

A small round recessed light with a hooded eyelid front, which shields the LED and pushes light down the wall rather than out into your eyes. The face measures 80mm across, so it reads as a neat dark circle by day and a soft warm white wash after dark. The 3W integrated LED and its driver are supplied together, so there is nothing further to buy, and the output is gentle rather than bright: enough to mark a level or an edge, not to flood a garden.

We use lights like this where a surface fitting would be in the way, alongside steps, down the side of a path, at low level in a boundary wall or across the front of a garden room. Weather rated for outdoor positions, it will cope with rain and wind on an exposed elevation, and it is just as good in a covered porch or a passage between two houses. The warm white tone keeps brickwork and render looking mellow rather than clinical, and a run of them along a wall gives a quiet rhythm of light at ankle height. It is not dimmable, so pair it with a switch or a timer circuit.

The sand black finish is a fine matt texture that shrugs off fingerprints and dust, and it holds its own against grey stone, timber cladding and dark render. Cleaning is a wipe of the face with a damp cloth once the light is off and cool, with any grit brushed away from the rim. It carries a three year warranty. The LED is built in, so there is no lamp to change. We stock the round eyelid in sand white and anthracite as well, and the same eyelid front is offered in a square version if your detailing calls for straight edges.
