Description

The Artic is a 350mm square semi-flush ceiling light built around four faceted glass cube shades mounted on a polished chrome backplate. Each cube is cut with angular facets that refract light into scattered patterns across the ceiling and walls when the G9 bulbs inside are lit. The chrome frame positions the glass cubes approximately 150mm below the ceiling, giving them enough projection to catch light without requiring the headroom of a pendant.

Designed for hallways, bedrooms and living rooms with ceiling heights of 2.4m or above, the Artic provides ambient light through four bulbs while acting as a decorative feature. The semi-flush mounting suits rooms where a flush light would sit too flat and a pendant would hang too low. The 350mm footprint covers a standard UK ceiling rose and works in rooms of 10-15m² where a single central fitting provides the primary light source.

The faceted glass cubes are moulded rather than hand-cut, giving consistent angles and edge sharpness across the four shades. When lit, the facets create small rainbow refractions at certain angles depending on the light temperature of the G9 bulbs chosen. The polished chrome reflects both ceiling light and the glow from the cubes, amplifying brightness in rooms with white or light-coloured ceilings. The 5.5kg weight requires secure fixing to a joist or ceiling anchor rather than plasterboard alone.

The Artic takes four G9 capsule bulbs, sold separately. Most users pair this with G9 LED bulbs between 3-5W and 2700K-3000K for warm white light. Halogen G9 bulbs at 25-40W are an option for higher output but generate more heat.

Is it dimmable?

Yes, provided dimmable G9 bulbs are fitted and a compatible dimmer switch is installed on the circuit. Not all G9 LED bulbs dim smoothly, so check bulb compatibility with your dimmer before purchase.

What ceiling height is needed?

The 150mm projection from ceiling to base of the glass cubes suits rooms with 2.4m ceilings or higher. In lower rooms the light may feel visually heavy, though functionally it still provides clearance above head height.

How is it fitted securely at 5.5kg?

The weight requires fixing to a ceiling joist or using a mechanical anchor rated for the load. Plasterboard fixings alone are insufficient. If your ceiling rose is not on a joist, consult an electrician to install an anchor plate before fitting the light.
