Description

These two stoneware bowls are small, footed and covered in pattern, each 10cm across and 6cm tall with a capacity of 160ml. One carries a flock of stylised birds in flight; the other has birds among dense floral foliage beneath a scalloped band at the rim. Both have an interior in a solid contrasting colour, so the pair looks as lively from above as from the side. The effect is multicoloured and cheerful, and because the two designs differ, they sit together as a matched pair rather than identical twins.

At 160ml these are small bowls, the size for dips, sauces, olives, nuts or a scoop of ice cream rather than a bowl of breakfast cereal. They are approved for food, so they suit everyday meals as well as evenings when friends visit for drinks and nibbles. On a kitchen shelf or dresser they bring pattern to plainer tableware, and away from the table they can hold rings, keys or small odds and ends on a hallway console or bedside table. With two different designs, it is easy to set one out for a dip and the other for a sauce, side by side.

They are made of 100% stoneware, a dense ceramic that holds heat well, and the pattern is applied as a decal. Care is straightforward: they can go in the dishwasher, the microwave and the oven, so warming a sauce or reheating a small portion needs no fuss. The styling props shown are not included. For a relaxed table, set the pair beside plain plates and let the birds and foliage bring the colour, or give each bowl its own place setting as a small pattern accent.
