Description

This storage basket is shaped like a pineapple, woven in beige polyrattan with a lid crowned by a spray of woven leaves. It is made from 60% iron and 40% polyrattan. Polyrattan is a synthetic weave with the look of cane, and iron is rigid, so the rounded body keeps its outline. At 60cm tall and 49cm across it is a floor basket rather than a shelf one, a piece that stands on its own beside a sofa or a bed, and at 2.6KG it is light enough to carry from room to room.

In a living room it makes a home for the throws and cushions that otherwise end up on the floor, and the lid keeps them out of sight between evenings. In a bedroom it holds spare blankets and pillows, and in a child's room or playroom it swallows soft toys at tidying time while still looking good enough to leave on show. Because the opening is wide and the lid lifts off completely, filling and emptying it is quick, which matters for anything in daily use. It suits anyone who wants storage that reads as a decorative piece first.

The body is a close, even weave, and over it runs a raised lattice of fine lines that meet in diamonds, much as the skin of a pineapple is marked. The lid sits on the rim and comes away whole, and its leaves are wrapped and woven to their tips, curling outwards like real fronds. For styling, give it a clear patch of floor beside the arm of a sofa or in the corner of a room, and drape a throw over one side so the fabric softens the woven lines. The styling props shown are not included.
