Description

The Akira is a 500mm square flush ceiling light built around a black-painted metal frame with a frosted white acrylic diffuser panel at the base and a polished chrome central fixing plate. Four E27 bulb holders sit behind the diffuser, casting light through the frosted acrylic to provide even ambient illumination across the full 500mm x 500mm area.

Designed for rooms with standard or low ceiling heights where a pendant would hang too far into the space, the Akira projects just 130mm from the ceiling once fitted. This makes it suitable for bedrooms, hallways, home offices and living rooms between 12-16m² where the 500mm footprint provides adequate coverage without dominating the ceiling plane. The flush mount fixes directly to a standard UK ceiling rose with the black frame concealing the junction.

The black frame provides a defined edge to the fitting, giving architectural presence to what would otherwise be a simple white diffuser. The contrast between the black perimeter and the white centre creates a framed-light effect that works in both minimal monochrome interiors and spaces where black accents are used sparingly. The frosted acrylic softens the light output so that individual bulb positions are not visible when the fitting is switched on.

The fitting accepts standard E27 LED, halogen or filament bulbs up to the manufacturer's rated maximum per socket (see Specification tab). Most installations use four LED bulbs in the 8-12W range at 2700K-3000K colour temperature for warm ambient light. Dimming is possible with dimmable LED bulbs and a compatible dimmer switch on the circuit.

What size room does this suit?

The 500mm x 500mm footprint and four-bulb configuration suit rooms between 12-16m² depending on bulb wattage and colour temperature. For larger rooms, two Akira fittings can be installed in parallel positions to provide even coverage.

No. The fitting takes four E27 bulbs which are sold separately. Most users choose LED bulbs between 8-12W at 2700K-3000K colour temperature for warm ambient light in living spaces.

Is it dimmable?

Yes, provided you use dimmable LED bulbs and a compatible dimmer switch on the circuit. Not all LED bulbs dim smoothly, so check the bulb packaging for dimming compatibility before purchase.
