Description

The Akira is a 1710mm floor lamp built around a slender antique brass column with a rectangular cream fabric shade measuring 400mm square. Three E27 bulbs sit inside the shade structure (sold separately), and a crystal detail sits midway down the column where the brass stem transitions. The square shade profile gives the lamp a more architectural presence than typical cylindrical or conical floor lamp shades.

Designed for living rooms, bedrooms and lounge areas where ambient lighting is needed without ceiling fittings, the Akira provides diffused light through the cream fabric rather than directing it downward or upward. The 1710mm overall height positions the shade at approximately 1400mm above floor level, making it suitable for placement behind a sofa, in a corner next to an armchair, or flanking a console table. The antique brass finish is a mid-tone warm metal with subtle darkening and patina effect, sitting between polished brass and aged bronze.

The square shade frame gives the lamp a footprint of 400mm x 400mm at the base, and the combined metal frame, fabric shade and weighted base bring the total weight to 8.7kg. This mass keeps the lamp stable on rugs and hard floors without needing to be anchored. The three-bulb configuration allows total light output to be scaled from 15W to 40W depending on the LED bulbs chosen, and the lamp is dimmable when paired with suitable dimmable bulbs and a compatible dimmer switch on the circuit.

Frequently Asked

What bulbs does the Akira take?

The lamp takes three standard E27 (Edison screw) bulbs, sold separately. Most users pair this with warm-white LED bulbs between 5-10W each at 2700K-3000K for ambient living room lighting.

Is the Akira dimmable?

Yes, when paired with dimmable E27 bulbs and a compatible dimmer switch installed on the circuit. The lamp itself does not have an in-line dimmer — dimming control comes from the wall switch or circuit dimmer.

What ceiling height is needed?

At 1710mm overall height, the Akira suits rooms with standard UK ceiling heights of 2.4m or above. The shade sits at approximately 1400mm above floor level, leaving clearance for walking past the lamp.

How is the cream shade cleaned?

The fabric shade can be gently vacuumed using an upholstery brush attachment, or wiped with a dry microfibre cloth. Avoid getting the fabric wet — if spot cleaning is necessary, use a barely-damp cloth with distilled water and allow to air-dry fully before switching the lamp back on.
