Description
This Adair piece is a white stoneware vase with a body that looks gently pinched and pressed. It is dimpled all the way round and rises from a narrow pedestal foot to a rim that dips and lifts in soft waves. The glaze is glossy and speckled, gathering into small flecks and runs that follow every hollow of the surface, so the light catches it differently from each side. It stands 24cm tall and 21cm across, a generous mid-size: large enough to hold its own on a sideboard, compact enough for a shelf or a deep windowsill. At 1.9KG it has real weight in the hand.
The wide mouth and short foot make it a natural home for a modest bunch of stems, a single trailing branch or a loose arrangement of dried grasses. It works just as well left empty as a sculptural piece. Set it on a hall console, a bedside table, a dining sideboard or a living room shelf, wherever a calm, quiet shape is wanted. Because the white is soft and the surface so textured, it suits pared-back, minimal rooms with natural wood and linen. It suits the warmer, layered look of a cottage sitting room just as well. It also makes a thoughtful housewarming gift.
It is made entirely of stoneware, a clay fired at high temperature, which gives a dense, hard body and is why the piece feels so solid. The maker notes that, due to the nature of the glaze, colour variations may occur. The flecking and depth of shade on yours may differ a little from one vase to the next, so think of that as the character of the glaze rather than a flaw. For styling, keep the stems light and let the wavy rim show: a few tall branches leaning from one side suit its asymmetric shape better than a tight, crowded bunch.

Frequently Asked
What is the vase made of?
It is made entirely of stoneware, finished in a glossy white glaze that gathers into fine flecks across its dimpled surface.
How big is the Adair vase?
It stands 24cm tall and measures 21cm across, a mid-size vase that sits comfortably on a sideboard, console or wide shelf.
How heavy is it?
It weighs 1.9KG, so it has a reassuring heft and sits steadily once placed on a table or shelf.
Does every vase look the same?
Not quite. The maker notes that, due to the nature of the glaze, colour variations may occur, so the flecks and shading differ a little on each piece.
Is anything included with the vase?
You receive the vase on its own. The flowers and the styling props shown are not included, so you can add stems of your own choosing.
