Abacus 2 Light Switched Picture Light 35cm 6000K - Satin Nickel

This is a compact picture light finished in satin nickel, a straight bar with a shallow forward reach that lays light down the wall rather than pushing it out into the room. Two G9 capsules sit behind the front edge, and they come supplied with the fitting. There is a toggle switch on the body, so it can be worked at the light itself, and it will dim once paired with a suitable dimmer.

At 35cm across it is sized for a modest canvas, a framed print or a group of photographs. We reach for it over a mirror, above prints on a stair wall, and in a shallow alcove where a recessed downlight would only glare back at you. The light is daylight white at 6000K, cool and clean, which keeps whites reading as white and suits home offices, workshops and kitchens, or anywhere you are looking at detail rather than settling in for the evening. Where a sitting room wants a softer glow, we would steer you to the warm white version of the same fitting.

The finish carries across the whole fitting, a low satin sheen that shows fingerprints far less than polished chrome and sits quietly against pale or papered walls. It belongs in dry indoor rooms: a landing or study is right for it, a shower room is not. Cleaning asks very little, a dry duster run along the top edge of the bar where dust settles, with polishes and spray cleaners kept well away from the nickel. It carries a one year warranty. A dimmer is not included.

What lamps does it take, and are they included?

It takes two G9 capsules and these are supplied with the light. LED capsules are what we would fit as replacements, up to a maximum of 33W per lamp.

How far does it stand off the wall?

The projection is 220mm, with a height of 125mm and a width of 350mm, so it reaches forward enough to wash a framed picture without crowding a walkway.

Will it work with my dimmer?

Yes, it is dimmable, but it needs a dimmer suited to LED loads. No dimmer is supplied with the light.

What colour is the light?

Daylight white at 6000K, a crisp cool tone. The same fitting is also made in 2700K if you want something warmer.

Do I need to reach a wall switch to use it?

No. A toggle switch is fitted to the light itself, which is useful above a picture in a room already served by another circuit.

How should I clean the satin nickel?

A soft dry cloth over the surfaces, with the light switched off and cool. Avoid metal polish, abrasive pads and general purpose sprays, as these can dull the satin sheen.
