Abacus 4 Light Switched Picture Light 60cm 6000K - Satin Black

A long, low bar of light, 60cm across, with four G9 capsule positions spaced along its length and a toggle switch built into the body so it can be worked at the fitting itself. The output is 6000K daylight white, clean and cool rather than cosy, and it will dim smoothly on a compatible dimmer.

We would fit this above a large canvas or a run of framed prints, where the width lets the light fall evenly across the bottom of the frame rather than pooling in the middle. It works just as well over a long mirror, along a hallway wall, or above a desk in a study, where the daylight tone keeps papers and colours honest. This one stays indoors, so keep it to living rooms, landings and studies and away from steam or splashing. The dimmer is bought separately, which gives you a free hand in matching it to the rest of the circuit.

The finish is satin black, a deep, even black that sits quietly against pale walls and recedes behind a frame rather than competing with it. Capsule lamps are supplied with it, so the light works from the moment the switch is thrown, and replacements are easy to come by when the time comes. Switch off at the toggle and give the capsules a few minutes to cool before you dust; a dry cloth run along the body keeps the black looking even. It carries a one year warranty. How much power does it draw, and what lamps does it take?

It runs at 16W in total across four G9 capsule positions, and each position takes up to 33W should you fit a different lamp. G9 LED capsules are supplied with it.

How far does it stand off the wall?

The projection is 220mm and the body is 125mm tall, so it reaches out far enough to throw light down the face of a picture.

Do I need a dimmer, and is one included?

It dims with a suitable dimmer, which is not included. It also has its own toggle switch on the fitting, so it can be turned on and off without a wall switch.

What sort of light does 6000K give?

A daylight white, crisp and cool. If you prefer something warmer, the same Abacus is made in 4000K, 3000K and 2700K versions.

Can I use it in a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20, so it should stay in dry indoor rooms.

How heavy is it?
