A slim horizontal bar of antique brass, 60cm across, holding four G9 capsules that throw their light down the wall in an even band. The output is daylight white at 6000K, crisp and clear rather than cosy, which keeps whites reading as white and stops colours turning yellow. A toggle switch on the body means it can be turned on and off at the fitting, and it will dim smoothly once a suitable dimmer is in the circuit.

The cooler light suits studios, home offices and workshops, and it earns its place on a hallway wall hung with framed photographs. It is a good answer where a floor lamp would crowd the room and a ceiling light casts shadows across the glass. Because it is a dry-room fitting, keep it to living rooms, landings, studies and bedrooms rather than bathrooms or a covered porch. The antique brass finish is a softened, slightly darkened gold that sits happily against panelling, deep paint colours and older timber frames. Wipe the metal now and then with a dry, lint-free cloth, and let the capsules cool before you swap one; they are replaceable, and a set is supplied with the light. It carries a one year warranty. Yes. It arrives with four G9 capsule lamps fitted, and they are replaceable, with a maximum of 33W per lamp if you change them later.

Is a dimmer supplied?

No. The fitting is dimmable, but it needs a compatible dimmer in the circuit, bought separately.

How far does it stand out from the wall?

The body measures 600mm wide, 125mm high and projects 220mm, so allow clearance for the depth of the frame or mirror beneath it.

Can I use it in a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms only.

Does it need a separate switch?

Not necessarily. There is a toggle switch on the fitting itself, so it can be operated by hand.
