Description

A slim satin black bar, 35cm across, carrying two G9 capsules along its length and a small toggle switch on the body so it can be worked at the fitting itself. It stands 22cm out from the wall, which pushes the light forward and sends it down across whatever sits beneath rather than back into the room. Fit dimmable capsules, run them from a dimmer, and the output can be taken down for the evening.

We reach for this one over pictures and prints, where the light needs to land on the frame without a shade dropping into view. It works above a mirror, in a shallow alcove, over a bookcase, or along a hallway where headroom is tight. The capsules give a soft, even wash rather than a hard pool of light, so it suits a room that already has other lighting to draw on. We would put warm white LED capsules in here and keep the wattage modest, and the toggle switch means there is no need to reach for a wall switch each time.

The bar is finished in satin black, a low sheen that keeps hard reflections off the metal and reads as well against a pale wall as a dark one. Dust it with a dry cloth when the power is off and the capsules have gone cold, and leave any wet cleaning well alone. It belongs in dry indoor rooms on the usual household supply. It carries a one year warranty. We stock the same bar in satin nickel and antique brass, and there is a longer version with more lamps in satin black for a wide picture. Capsules are bought separately.
