Description

The Knightsbridge SN8400 is a 5A 4-terminal junction box with a 59mm diameter white thermoset resin case and selective cable entry points around the perimeter. The box houses four brass terminals inside a shallow 25mm-deep housing, allowing multiple lighting or low-load circuits to be joined or branched within ceiling voids, under floors, or behind wall linings.

Designed for fixed wiring installations in residential and commercial properties, the junction box suits lighting circuits rated up to 5A on 230V mains. The selective entry design allows cables to enter from any point around the circumference, with knock-out sections removed as needed during installation. The white thermoset resin case is fire-resistant and dimensionally stable under heat from connected loads, meeting BS EN 60670 for electrical accessory enclosures.

The IP20 rating means the box is suitable for dry indoor locations but not for outdoor use or damp environments such as bathrooms without additional IP-rated enclosures. The 59mm diameter and 25mm projection suit standard UK ceiling joist spacing and back-of-plasterboard installation without requiring deeper recesses. Knightsbridge backs the junction box with a 25-year warranty against manufacturing defects.

Frequently Asked

What cable sizes does it accept?

The junction box accepts standard UK lighting cable sizes, typically 1.0mm² or 1.5mm² twin-and-earth cable. The brass terminals inside accommodate multiple cores as needed for looping or branching circuits.

Can it be used in bathrooms?

The IP20 rating means the box is not inherently protected against water ingress. If used in a bathroom it must be positioned outside shower zones and enclosed within a higher IP-rated accessory or fitting to comply with wiring regulations.

What does selective entry mean?

Selective entry allows you to choose which points around the perimeter the cables enter from. Knock-out sections are removed during installation depending on cable routing, rather than the box having fixed pre-drilled entry holes.

Is it suitable for outdoor use?

No. The IP20 rating and thermoset resin construction are designed for dry indoor locations only. For outdoor installations use a junction box with an IP65 or IP66 rating and UV-resistant enclosure.
