Description

The Knightsbridge EMXSTL is a 4W LED emergency exit sign with an integrated self-test facility that automatically checks the battery and LED function at pre-programmed intervals in accordance with EN 62034. The sign operates in either maintained mode (permanently illuminated) or non-maintained mode (illuminated only during power loss), providing a minimum 3-hour emergency illumination period during mains failure.

Designed for installation above doorways, corridors and stairwells in commercial, public and industrial buildings, the sign fits both wall and ceiling surfaces using a unique hinge and hanger system that allows the fitting to be rotated and locked in position without removing the mounting bracket. The polycarbonate housing measures 310mm wide by 230mm high with a 44mm projection, and the sign is supplied with an 'Arrow Up' legend as standard.

The SMD LED array produces 40 lumens in mains operation and 10.5 lumens in emergency mode at 6000K daylight white, providing high-contrast visibility of the green running man pictogram and directional arrow. Visual health-check LED indicators on the housing allow maintenance teams to confirm battery status and self-test results without needing to trigger a manual discharge test. The LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) battery provides a longer service life and more stable performance across temperature ranges than older NiCd or NiMH battery chemistries.

Frequently Asked

What does the self-test function do?

The self-test function automatically checks the battery charge level and LED operation at pre-programmed intervals in accordance with EN 62034. If a fault is detected, the visual health-check LED indicators on the housing will show an error status, allowing maintenance teams to identify issues without manually triggering a discharge test.

Can it be used in maintained or non-maintained mode?

Yes. The sign can be wired for maintained operation (permanently illuminated during normal mains supply) or non-maintained operation (illuminated only during mains failure). It cannot be wired for switched maintained mode where the sign is switched on and off manually while remaining connected to mains.

How long does the battery last during power failure?

The LiFePO4 battery provides a minimum 3-hour emergency illumination period at 10.5 lumens output. This meets UK Building Regulations requirements for emergency escape lighting in most commercial and public buildings.

Can the legend be changed?

Yes. The sign is supplied with an 'Arrow Up' legend as standard, but alternative directional legends (left, right, down) are available separately. The legend is held behind the polycarbonate cover and can be swapped by removing the front panel.
