4ft IP65 T8 Single Tube Batten Fitting

This is a sealed batten fitting built to take a single 4ft T8 tube, so the housing and the light source are chosen separately. The body is a one piece moulded enclosure with a clear diffuser clipped along its length, closed ends, and a cable gland at one end that clamps the supply cable and keeps the seal intact. It carries an IP65 rating, which means it is sealed against dust and against water jetted at it from any direction, and the maker gives it an IK06 impact rating as well. It is not dimmable.

A batten like this earns its place where a pendant or a spotlight would struggle. Garages, workshops, utility rooms, cellars, outbuildings and carports are the obvious homes for it, along with stores and plant rooms where dust, damp and the occasional knock are part of the day. Because the rating is IP65, it is also permitted in bathroom zones 1, 2 and 3, though not in zone 0. Is a tube supplied with it?

How bright is it and what colour is the light?

Neither the specification nor the pack gives a wattage, a lumen figure or a colour temperature, because those belong to the tube you choose rather than to the housing.

Can I fit it in a bathroom?

Yes. The IP65 rating allows it in zones 1, 2 and 3, but not in zone 0, the inside of the bath or shower itself. Have it wired by a qualified electrician.

Will it work on a dimmer switch?

No. The manufacturer states it is not dimmable, so wire it to an ordinary switched circuit and avoid trailing edge or leading edge dimmer plates.

Is it suitable for a damp garage or a covered outdoor area?

IP65 means the enclosure is sealed against dust and against water jets from any direction, which suits garages, carports, sheds and open outbuildings.

How much room do I need to mount it?

Plan for the full 1200mm run plus clearance at each end for the end caps and the cable gland, with 72mm of width and 86mm of projection.
