Description

The Knightsbridge 45A DP switch features a red rocker with neon indicator on a white rounded-edge plate. The double pole design isolates both live and neutral lines when switched off, providing a full break for high-load appliances such as cookers, electric ovens and shower circuits up to 10.8kW at 230V.

Designed for kitchen, utility room and bathroom installation where cookers or electric showers require a dedicated switch, the 45A rating handles the sustained high current loads that these appliances draw. The neon indicator glows red when the circuit is live, giving clear visual confirmation of the switch state from across the room. The red rocker provides additional visual coding, often used to denote high-power circuits in commercial and hospitality installations.

The white plate is moulded from thermoset resin with a 7mm gently contoured profile and rounded edges, designed to resist impact and heat better than standard thermoplastic alternatives. Anti-microbial properties tested to ISO 22196:2011 inhibit bacterial growth on the plate surface, making this switch suitable for healthcare, care home and food preparation environments. The switch fits a standard 47mm minimum back box depth and includes screw cap covers to hide fixings once installed.

Frequently Asked

What appliances require a 45A switch?

Electric cookers, built-in ovens, hobs and electric showers typically draw between 30A and 45A at full load, requiring a 45A-rated switch rather than the standard 20A or 32A ratings used for lower-power circuits. This switch handles continuous loads up to 10.8kW at 230V.

What does the neon indicator show?

The neon indicator glows red when the circuit is live, even if the appliance itself is not drawing power. This confirms the switch is in the 'on' position and voltage is present at the outlet terminals.

What back box depth is needed?

A 47mm minimum back box depth is required. The plate projects 7mm from the wall once installed, giving a total projection of approximately 12mm from the finished wall surface including the screw cap covers.

What does double pole mean?

Double pole switching isolates both the live and neutral conductors when the switch is off, providing a complete break in the circuit. This is a requirement for high-power fixed appliances under UK wiring regulations and provides additional safety compared to single pole switching.
