Description

The Knightsbridge 45A DP switch is a single-gang double-pole isolator with a neon indicator built into a white rocker, set within a 7mm curved-edge white plate. The double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when switched off, providing full circuit isolation for high-draw appliances such as cookers, electric showers, and immersion heaters rated up to 45A (10,350W at 230V).

Designed for kitchens, utility rooms, and bathrooms where full isolation is required by UK wiring regulations, the switch fits a standard 47mm minimum back box depth and uses a thermoset resin construction that resists heat and impact. The neon indicator glows red when the circuit is live, giving clear visual confirmation of power status even when the appliance itself is out of sight.

The 7mm gently contoured plate has rounded edges that sit flush with most wall finishes, and the white thermoset material carries anti-microbial properties tested to ISO 22196:2011, reducing bacterial growth on the surface. The switch includes screw cap covers to hide the fixing screws once installed, and carries a 25-year manufacturer warranty. The plate measures 86mm square, matching standard UK single-gang dimensions.

Frequently Asked

What appliances require a 45A switch?

Electric cookers, ranges, electric showers, and immersion heaters typically require 45A-rated isolation switches. UK wiring regulations require these appliances to have a local isolator within 2m of the appliance itself. Check your appliance rating before installation.

What does the neon indicator show?

The red neon indicator glows when the circuit is live and the switch is in the ON position. It confirms that power is available to the appliance without needing to test the appliance itself, which is useful for infrequently-used circuits like immersion heaters.

What back box depth is needed?

A 47mm minimum back box depth is required. The 7mm plate projection brings the total wall-to-faceplate depth to approximately 54mm once installed.

What are the anti-microbial properties?

The thermoset resin used in the plate has been third-party tested to ISO 22196:2011 and inhibits bacterial growth on the surface. This is particularly relevant in kitchens and bathrooms where switches are handled frequently and surface hygiene matters.
