Description

The Knightsbridge 45A DP switch is a single-gang double-pole isolator designed for high-current applications such as cookers, showers and electric boilers. The switch uses a bright red rocker marked 'ON' to provide clear visual indication of the circuit state, set into a white thermoset resin faceplate with gently rounded edges and a 7mm contoured profile.

Designed for residential and light commercial installation, the switch fits a standard 35mm minimum back box depth and includes screw cap covers to conceal the fixing screws once installed. The double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when the switch is off, providing complete circuit isolation for appliances requiring maintenance or replacement. The 45A rating handles loads up to 10,350W at 230V, comfortably covering typical UK cooker and shower installations.

The white faceplate is manufactured from thermoset resin with anti-microbial properties tested to ISO 22196:2011, reducing bacterial growth on the surface over time. This makes the switch suitable for kitchens, utility rooms and other areas where hygiene matters. The rounded edge profile eliminates sharp corners and the slightly contoured face reduces the visual bulk of the plate on the wall compared to flat-edge alternatives.

Frequently Asked

What appliances is this switch rated for?

The 45A rating covers electric cookers, electric showers, instantaneous water heaters and electric boilers. At 230V the switch handles loads up to 10,350W, which is sufficient for most domestic cooking and showering installations.

What does double-pole switching mean?

Double-pole (DP) switching isolates both the live and neutral conductors when the switch is off, providing complete circuit isolation. This is a safety requirement for certain high-current appliances and is preferred when isolating circuits for maintenance.

What back box depth is required?

A 35mm minimum back box depth is needed. The switch faceplate adds 7mm of projection from the wall surface once installed.

What are the anti-microbial properties?

The thermoset resin faceplate is treated with an anti-microbial additive that reduces bacterial growth on the surface. The treatment has been tested to ISO 22196:2011 and is particularly useful in kitchens and utility rooms where switches are frequently touched during food preparation.
