Description

The Knightsbridge 45A double pole pull cord switch provides ceiling-mounted control for high-current bathroom circuits, most commonly electric showers rated up to 45A at 230V. The switch features both a red neon indicator visible when the switch is on and a mechanical on/off indicator built into the faceplate, so the circuit status is clear even when the neon bulb needs replacing.

Designed for installation in bathrooms, wet rooms and utility areas where wall-mounted switches would fall within zones requiring higher IP ratings, the pull cord brings the switching point outside the zone while the circuit remains isolated at ceiling height. The 1.7m white braided cord with pull handle reaches comfortably from a 2.4-2.7m ceiling to a standing user. The double pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when off, providing complete circuit isolation rather than single-pole live-only switching.

The 85mm square white thermoset resin faceplate is impact-resistant and heat-stable, rated Class II for double-insulated construction. The IP20 rating means the switch is suitable for ceiling positions outside bathroom zones 0, 1 and 2, typically mounted directly above or adjacent to the shower cubicle. Screw cap covers are included to hide the fixing screws once installation is complete, and the switch is certified to EN 60669-1 for household and similar fixed electrical installations.

Frequently Asked

Can this switch be used for an electric shower?

Yes. The 45A rating handles most residential electric showers rated between 7.5kW and 10.5kW on a 230V supply. Check your shower's rated current draw against the 45A limit before installation.

What does the IP20 rating mean for bathroom installation?

IP20 provides protection against solid objects larger than 12.5mm but no water ingress protection. The switch must be installed outside bathroom zones 0, 1 and 2, typically on the ceiling directly above or adjacent to the shower where it is not subject to water spray.

How does the double pole switching work?

Double pole switching isolates both the live and neutral conductors when the switch is off, providing complete circuit isolation. This differs from single-pole switches which only break the live conductor, leaving the neutral connected.

What is the mechanical on/off indicator?

A small window on the faceplate displays either ON or OFF depending on the switch position. This provides a visual status indicator even if the neon fails, which can happen over time as neon bulbs have a finite service life.
