Description

The Knightsbridge 45A DP cooker switch combines a 45A dual-pole cooker control switch with a 13A DP switched socket and dual neon indicators behind an anthracite thermoset resin faceplate. White rockers provide the visual contrast required under Building Regulations Part M, with ON markings printed on the tops of each rocker and COOKER laser-etched into the plate below the larger switch.

Designed for kitchen installations where a cooker circuit and a standard appliance outlet need to be controlled from a single unit, typically positioned within 2m of the cooker. The 45A switch isolates both live and neutral lines on the cooker circuit, while the 13A socket provides an additional outlet for small appliances such as kettles or microwaves. Both switches include neon indicators that illuminate when the circuit is live, confirming that the cooker or appliance is receiving power even when no load is drawing current.

The anthracite finish has a Light Reflectance Value of approximately 8.9, creating strong contrast against most kitchen wall colours and meeting Part M requirements for accessible housing. The thermoset resin construction carries inherent anti-microbial properties tested to ISO 22196:2011, making the plate suitable for environments where hygiene matters. The unit measures 146mm wide by 86mm tall with a 7mm projection from the wall and requires a 47mm minimum back box depth for installation.

Frequently Asked

What is Part M compliance and why does it matter?

Building Regulations Part M sets accessibility standards for housing in England and Wales, including requirements for visual contrast between switches and wall surfaces to assist people with visual impairments. The anthracite plate with white rockers provides sufficient contrast to meet these requirements. This makes the unit suitable for new-build homes, housing association properties and accessible housing refurbishments where Part M compliance is mandatory.

What back box depth is required?

A 47mm minimum back box depth is needed for safe installation. The plate itself adds 7mm of projection from the wall once fitted.

What do the neon indicators show?

Each switch (the 45A cooker switch and the 13A socket switch) has its own neon indicator that illuminates when that circuit is live, regardless of whether an appliance is drawing current. This allows you to confirm that the cooker circuit is energised even when the cooker is not actively heating, or that the socket is live even with nothing plugged in.

Can this replace a standard cooker switch?

Yes, provided your existing installation uses a 47mm or deeper back box and the wiring is compatible with a dual-pole cooker switch rated at 45A. The 13A socket adds functionality without requiring additional wiring runs, as both switch and socket share the same back box.
