Description

The Knightsbridge 45A DP cooker switch combines a double-pole 45A isolation switch with a 13A switched socket and two neon indicators on a brushed chrome faceplate with white insert and rounded edges. The 45A switch controls high-draw cooking appliances such as electric cookers, range cookers and hobs, while the 13A socket provides a separate outlet for smaller kitchen appliances like kettles, toasters or food processors.

Designed for kitchen installation within 2 metres of the cooker or hob, the unit acts as the primary isolation point for the cooking circuit. The double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when the 45A switch is off, meeting UK wiring regulations for fixed cooking appliances. The two neon indicators show when each circuit is live — the upper neon confirms power to the 45A cooker circuit, the lower neon confirms the 13A socket is switched on. This visible confirmation reduces the chance of accidentally leaving circuits energised during maintenance.

The brushed chrome faceplate is formed from premium-grade steel with a directional satin finish that diffuses reflections and resists fingerprints. The rounded-edge design softens the profile against the wall and pairs comfortably with both contemporary and transitional kitchen styles. The white insert behind the faceplate provides contrast around each aperture and conceals the back of the cover plate. The 47mm minimum back box depth accommodates the internal terminals and cable runs typical of high-current cooking circuits.

Frequently Asked

What appliances can the 45A switch control?

The 45A rating handles electric cookers, range cookers, hobs and ovens up to 10,350W (45A × 230V). This covers most domestic cooking appliances including dual-fuel ranges where the electric oven circuit runs through the cooker switch.

What do the neon indicators show?

The upper neon illuminates when the 45A cooker circuit is live. The lower neon illuminates when the 13A socket switch is on. Both neons provide visual confirmation that the circuits are energised, which is particularly useful before maintenance work.

What back box depth is required?

A 47mm minimum back box depth is needed to accommodate the internal terminals and high-current cable runs. This is deeper than standard socket back boxes due to the 45A rating and combined unit design.

Can the 13A socket be used independently of the cooker switch?

Yes. The 13A socket operates on a separate circuit with its own switch and can be used for small kitchen appliances regardless of whether the 45A cooker switch is on or off.
