Description

The Knightsbridge 45A DP cooker control unit combines a 45A double-pole switch with a 13A switched socket behind a polished chrome rounded-edge faceplate with black insert. Both the 45A switch and the 13A socket have red neon indicators that illuminate when the circuits are live, providing visible confirmation of power status before maintenance or appliance connection.

Designed for kitchen installation where a cooker or hob requires a dedicated 45A supply alongside a convenience 13A outlet for small appliances, the unit allows the cooker circuit to be isolated for cleaning, maintenance or emergency shut-off without switching off power at the consumer unit. The 13A socket can supply kettles, blenders or stand mixers independently of the cooker circuit, provided the combined load does not exceed the rating.

The polished chrome finish provides a reflective metallic surface that pairs with stainless steel appliances and contemporary kitchen fittings. The rounded edges soften the profile compared to square-edge plates, and the black insert behind the chrome faceplate conceals the back of the cover plate around each aperture. The unit requires a minimum 47mm back box depth and fits standard UK wiring for cooker circuits and ring mains.

Frequently Asked

What's the purpose of the neon indicators?

Both the 45A switch and the 13A socket have red neon indicators that illuminate when the circuits are live. This provides visible confirmation of power status, making it safer to work on the cooker or verify that the socket is powered before plugging in an appliance.

What back box depth is required?

A minimum 47mm back box depth is needed for safe installation. This accommodates the terminals, cable connections and the depth of the switch mechanism behind the faceplate.

Can the 13A socket and 45A switch be used independently?

Yes. The 45A switch controls the cooker circuit, while the 13A socket operates independently on the ring main circuit. Switching off the 45A cooker switch does not affect the 13A socket, and vice versa.

What does double-pole switching mean?

Double-pole (DP) switching isolates both the live and neutral conductors when the switch is turned off, providing complete circuit isolation. This is safer than single-pole switching for high-load appliances like cookers, as it prevents any current flow when the switch is in the off position.
