Description

The Knightsbridge 40W700DA is a 40W constant current LED driver delivering 700mA output across a 28-56V range, designed to power LED light fittings that require regulated current rather than voltage control. The driver converts 230V 50Hz mains input to a constant 700mA output, automatically adjusting voltage between 28V and 56V to match the LED load connected to it.

Designed for installation into ceiling voids, behind panels, or inside light fittings where mains-voltage LED drivers are needed, the unit fits spaces with at least 170mm length clearance and 30mm height. The polycarbonate housing carries IP20 rating for dry indoor locations and Class II double-insulated construction, eliminating the need for an earth connection. The driver is dimmable with most trailing-edge dimmers, allowing light output to be controlled from a standard wall dimmer switch.

The 166mm x 52mm x 25mm white polycarbonate case includes screw-mounting lugs at each end for fixing to joists, back boxes or mounting plates. Input and output connections use push-fit terminal blocks that accept cable sizes suitable for domestic LED lighting circuits. The constant current output maintains stable LED performance across the dimming range and prevents current spikes that can shorten LED lifespan.

Frequently Asked

What LED fittings is this driver compatible with?

This driver suits LED light fittings rated for 700mA constant current operation with forward voltages between 28V and 56V. This typically includes LED downlights, panel lights and strip configurations requiring a total of approximately 40W at 700mA. Check the LED fitting specification to confirm it requires constant current drive rather than constant voltage.

Can this be dimmed with any dimmer switch?

The driver is compatible with most trailing-edge dimmers only. Leading-edge dimmers are not compatible and may cause flickering, buzzing or failure. Knightsbridge recommends testing dimmer compatibility before final installation, as performance varies between dimmer models and LED loads.

Where should the driver be installed?

The driver requires a dry indoor location with IP20 minimum protection. Typical installation positions include ceiling voids above plasterboard, inside control panels, or behind wall-mounted light fittings where the 166mm x 52mm x 25mm case can be accommodated. Adequate ventilation around the case is required to prevent overheating.

What does Class II mean?

Class II indicates double-insulated construction, meaning the driver does not require connection to an earth wire. This simplifies installation in locations where earth continuity is difficult to achieve, though standard wiring regulations still apply to the mains input circuit.
