Description

The Knightsbridge 3W LED emergency downlight is a non-maintained recessed fitting with an integrated self-test facility that complies with EN 62034. The self-test function runs periodic automatic checks at pre-programmed intervals, eliminating the need for manual testing and logging test results in the unit's memory. In emergency mode the LED produces 125 lumens at 6000K for a minimum of 3 hours from the internal LiFePO4 battery.

Designed for commercial premises, hospitality, office and residential common areas where emergency escape route lighting is required by building regulations, the fitting recesses into a 34mm cut-out with a minimum 75mm void depth above. The 42mm diameter bezel sits 2mm proud of the ceiling surface once installed. The fitting operates in non-maintained mode only, meaning the LED is off during normal mains power and illuminates only when mains supply fails or is switched off.

The die-cast aluminium and polycarbonate construction carries an IP20 rating for dry internal locations. Three bezel options are supplied with the fitting: brushed aluminium, white and black, allowing the visible finish to match ceiling colour or other light fittings in the space. The 300mm cable tail terminates in a connector for linking to the maintained mains circuit and emergency feed. Class II construction means no earth connection is required.

Frequently Asked

What does non-maintained mean?

Non-maintained operation means the LED remains off during normal mains power and illuminates only when mains supply fails or is switched off during an emergency. This differs from maintained emergency lights which operate continuously and also function as general lighting.

How does the self-test facility work?

The integrated self-test function complies with EN 62034 and runs automatic periodic checks at pre-programmed intervals. Test results are logged in the unit's memory, eliminating the need for manual testing and record-keeping required by building regulations.

What void depth is needed above the ceiling?

A minimum 75mm void depth is required above the ceiling to accommodate the driver unit and battery pack. The fitting itself recesses 22mm into a 34mm diameter cut-out, with the 42mm bezel sitting 2mm proud of the ceiling surface.

How long does the battery last in emergency mode?

The LiFePO4 battery provides a minimum of 3 hours emergency illumination at 125 lumens output when mains power fails. Battery life and replacement intervals depend on frequency of discharge cycles and operating temperature.
