Description
The Knightsbridge EMPOWER3 is a 3W LED emergency downlight with an integrated lithium-ion battery, designed for non-maintained emergency lighting in commercial, public and residential buildings. The fitting operates at 6000K daylight white and delivers 120 lumens in emergency mode, providing sufficient visibility for exit routes, stairwells and corridors during mains power failure.
Recessed into ceiling voids with a minimum depth of 125mm, the downlight sits almost flush to the surface with just 2mm projection and a 42mm visible diameter. The compact form factor suits modern fire safety installations where emergency lighting needs to be present but visually discreet. The non-maintained operation means the LED only illuminates when mains power is lost, making the fitting suitable for areas with existing ambient lighting that already provides adequate visibility under normal conditions.
The body is constructed from die-cast aluminium and polycarbonate with an IP20 rating, suitable for dry indoor environments. Three interchangeable bezels (aluminium, white, black) are included, allowing the visible finish to be matched to ceiling colour or adjacent fittings. The lithium-ion battery charges from 230V 50Hz mains and requires a 34mm cut-out diameter for installation. A 400mm cable tail connects to the emergency lighting circuit.

Frequently Asked
What does non-maintained mean?
Non-maintained emergency lighting only illuminates when mains power fails. During normal operation the LED remains off, relying on existing ambient lighting to provide visibility. This differs from maintained emergency lights, which stay on continuously and switch to battery power during outages.
What ceiling void depth is required?
A minimum 125mm void depth above the ceiling is needed to accommodate the driver unit and battery pack. The recessed depth of the fitting itself is 22mm, with a 34mm cut-out diameter required in the ceiling surface.
Can the bezel colour be changed after installation?
Yes. Three bezels are supplied with the fitting (aluminium, white, black). The bezel clips onto the front of the downlight and can be swapped without rewiring, allowing the visible finish to be matched to ceiling colour or changed during redecoration.
What is the battery life and charge time?
The lithium-ion battery charges continuously when connected to 230V mains. Specific charge time and emergency duration are detailed in the specification sheet under Downloads. Battery warranty is excluded from the 3-year product warranty as batteries are consumable components with a finite lifespan.
